Taye Atske Selassie was sworn in today as Ethiopia's new President, replacing Sahlework Zewde whose term has come to an end. The new head of state brings with him decades of experience in diplomacy and international relations.
Taye most recently served as Foreign Minister since February 2024, spearheading Ethiopia's engagement with other nations. Prior to that, he spent six years as Ethiopia's Permanent Representative to the United Nations between 2018-2024, advocating for the country's interests on the global stage.
Over a career spanning three decades in public service, Taye has effectively represented Ethiopia in numerous international forums. He is well-versed in global affairs and familiar with the workings of multilateral institutions.
The appointment of Taye as President was approved in a parliamentary vote, garnering majority support while five MPs abstained.
