Ethiopian Airlines flight ET106/18 today had a runway excursion after landing at Mekelle Alula Aba Nega International Airport in northern Ethiopia.
The flight, which originated from Addis Ababa at 12:30 local time, touched down at Mekelle airport at 14:10 local time. However, upon landing, the aircraft continued rolling and exited the runway surface.
In a statement, Ethiopian Airlines confirmed that the Boeing 737-800 aircraft had a runway excursion after landing. It said all passengers and crew were safely disembarked from the aircraft with no reported injuries.
The national flag carrier said it has commenced an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident. It also apologized for any inconvenience caused to passengers.
This is the first such incident being reported at Mekelle airport involving Ethiopian Airlines. More details are awaited on the investigation findings.
