The tourism sector received some welcome news lately after government's homecoming campaign for the diaspora community bear some fruit and the UK removed Ethiopia from its travel red list.
Though it remains to be seen whether the latter will prompt many disappointed international travellers to renew their bookings, many diasporas are making a comeback to their homeland, a good news for hospitality establishments that were reporting a fall in room occupancy rates because of the resurgence of COVID-19.
The year-long conflict in North Ethiopia and the coronavirus pandemic prolonged the recovery of the tourism sector. The travel advisories issued by embassies and several governments due to the conflict in North Ethiopia hampered the recovery of businesses involved in the hospitality market.
