Food inflation surged to 37 percent, the highest in 10 years, Birrmetrics confirmed.
Last week, Eyob Tekalign, State Minister of Finance, admitted the inflationary pressure is becoming out of the government control.
"It is our biggest headache to the macroeconomy," remarked the state minister.
Exacerbated by the swift depreciation of Birr and unending upsurge of prices of food items, the cost of living has been soaring for the last three years.
Year-on-Year Inflation has reached 30.4 percent in August 2021, the highest since 2011. The non-food component of inflation also surged to 20.8 percent during the same month.
