King Charles III is under pressure to give Ethiopia its sacred tabot, which represents the ark of the Covenant figuratively.
The King is renowned for being sympathetic to the Eastern Churches, despite the fact that he will now have to deal with a number of pressing issues.
An appeal to the new monarch for the return of the tabot could finally be successful more than 150 years after its acquisition, according to a report by The Art Newspaper, a media outlet based in London and New York City.
Even though it is a holy tablet that, to the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, represents the Ark of the Covenant symbolically, Westminster Abbey refused to hand over a tabot to Ethiopia.
Westminster Abbey in London falls under the monarch's direct control because it is a Royal Peculiar. As a result, it is possible that returning the tabot will need the approval of the monarch, who serves as the supreme governor of the Church of England.
In a statement made last month, a spokesperson for the abbey stated that "there are no current plans [for its return], but the future of the tabot is kept under review."
