The National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) today unveiled a new mobile remittance application at the "Debo" forum aimed at leveraging diaspora flows for development.
Dubbed "Unite.et", the platform was launched at the forum organized by the central bank under the theme "Let's Deepen Diaspora Engagement". The event brought together Ethiopian policymakers, bankers and members of the global Ethiopian diaspora community.
Developed in partnership with Ethiopia's commercial banks, Unite.et aims to facilitate services for the Non-Resident Ethiopians and Persons of Ethiopian Origin by providing a gateway for banking services abroad.
The app allows diasporas to connect with Ethiopian banks, open foreign currency accounts, manage investments and engage in banking and payment activities back home through a single digital platform.
In the past four years, commercial lenders have also rolled out comparable fintech solutions to formalize forex inflows through platforms like Mamapa, Cashgo and ethio direct.
