Ethiopia has posted strengthened coffee export numbers for February in defiance of logistical challenges bedeviling Red Sea transport routes since last November.
Data from the Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority shows shipments reaching 19,200 tons valued at 88.6 million dollars last month - a 20 percent volume and seven percent earnings increase versus February 2023.
The performance is achieved despite disruptions stemming from ongoing Houthi attacks along the critical shipping lane connecting Ethiopia's ports with the Suez Canal entry point to Europe and global markets.
Houthi strikes since November have complicated passage by prompting some carriers to abandon the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden entirely, rerouting vessels far south around the Cape of Good Hope and adding over 6,400km to journeys.
