Ethiopia needs three years to finalize the construction of its giant dam on Nile, officials said.
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, which just started generating power last week, has been under construction for over a decade.
Costing the government over 163 billion Br so far, the dam has 13 turbines, one of which with a capacity of generating 375 megawatt of electricity became active on last Sunday.
While the turbines are already connected with 500kV and 400kV transmission lines of the national grid, finalising their installation process and other construction works may need three additional year.
The dam is expected to hold 74 billion metre cubic of water once it became operational. About 84 percent of the dam's construction is now completed.
