About 700 tons of onion that was supplied by traders in neighbouring countries, including Sudan, rejected for imports by the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade over quality issues.
The supplied item was denied access from entering to the local market because of quality issues. It is a decision coincided with a shortage of onion occurring across the country.
Currently, the price of onion reached as high as 35 Br a kilogram, twice the price registered during the end of June 2021, one of the factors for the surge in food inflation in the last three months. The increase attributed to the fall in onion production and volume of onion imported from Sudan.
