The third water filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) is scheduled to finish in the next few hours, bringing the reservoir's elevation to 600 meters above sea level.
Engineers and dam workers are currently awaiting the historic event, which will increase the reservoir's total water storage to 22 billion cubic meters.
Egypt has been protesting Ethiopia's decision to fill the dam without first reaching a legally binding agreement with lower riparian nations.
Sudan opposed the filling of the dam and sided with Egypt, claiming that Ethiopia had violated the framework agreement that the three nations had signed in 2015.
