A local company leases a shed at Dire Dawa Industrial Park to set up an assembly plant with an investment capital of 700 million Br. It is expected to have a capacity to assemble 9,000 vehicles annually.
El-Auto Engineering, a car assembler known for assembling Chinese made vehicles for taxi hailing services, is the company behind the project and has signed an agreement with the Industrial Development Corporation (IPDC) to setup the new plant in less than two years.
Over 100 car assemblers were licensed in the last decade in Ethiopia, though a fraction of them are active at the moment. Marathon Motors, Bishoftu Engineering and BelayAb Motors are among popular assemblers operating in Ethiopia.
