Sileshi Bekele, an official who was leading the negotiation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), has been appointed as a Chief Negotiator and Advisor on Transboundary Rivers and GERD.
A creator of the famous adage "It is my dam," Sileshi has been serving as a Minister of Water, Irrigation and Energy for almost three years before being replaced by Habtamu Etefa during the formation of the new cabinet by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed yesterday.
Sileshi is praised for his success during the negotiation with Egypt and Sudan over the giant dam on Nile. He has also saw the filling of the dam for two consecutive years, an action which was opposed by the United States, Egypt and Sudan.
