Safaricom has boosted the speeds of its home broadband plans in Kenya, including the launch of the country's fastest residential internet - a new top-tier 1000 megabits per second package.
The East African nation's largest telecom firm said the "Platinum" plan offers download speeds of 1,000Mbps for 20,000 Kenyan shillings (155 dollars) per month.
Safaricom has increased speeds across its existing home internet tiers to meet growing demand for reliable, high-speed connectivity. The upgrades come as it faces stiff competition in Kenya's home broadband market from rivals rolling out fibre networks and bundled plans.
As well as the new speeds, Safaricom has introduced a "Family Share" mobile-home broadband bundle that allows up to five users to share a combined voice, SMS and data plan.
"We have enhanced our Home Internet speeds...offering capability of handling the most demanding online activities with ease," said Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa.
Safaricom's fibre footprint now spans over 17,000km across Kenya after adding 110,000 new broadband customers last financial year.
In addition to support for heavy users such as gamers and content creators, Safaricom said the new speeds would allow for "handling the most demanding online activities with ease, including high-definition streaming 4K/8K, gaming, large file transfers, cloud computing, and virtual reality.”
